3 Days L. Baringo & Bogoria

4 Days

This ideal 3 days safari takes you to lake Baringo ,a freshwater lake in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley approximately 22 km long by 11 kms wide. It lies at an altitude of 1100 meters and is surrounded by mountains rising to almost 3000 meters above the ambient ground level in places. Beyond the northern end of the Lake rises the dormant volcano, Karosi, 1449 meters high.

The Lake is home to hippos and crocodiles as well as an abundance of colourful birds and small reptiles. Giraffe and other grazers are also present to the north of the lake.
After spending the night at Lake Baringo country club, the next morning you depart to Lake Bogoria National Reserve for 1 night departing back to Nairobi the next morning.

Bogoria National Reserve covers 107 km sq and is most famous for its flamingo population, its strange and quite stunning scenery and the presence of the rare Greater Kudu. It is better to visit the Lake either in the early morning or late evening, as it is fiercely hot at midday . While Lake Bogoria is most famous for its spectacular Flamingo populations, the surrounding bush and grassland is home to a number of animals. The Reserve’s herd of rare Greater Kudu make it unique and other game to view includes buffalo (rare), zebra, baboon, warthog, caracal, spotted hyena, impala, dik dik and many small mammals. The south shore has acacia-ficus (Fig Tree) woodland and to the north is a papyrus swamp. Much of the local roofing material is made from Papyrus.

Apart from Flamingo, of interest to the specialist will be Little Grebe, Tawny Eagle, Pratincole, Swift, Little Bee-eater, Cape-wigeon, Yellow-billed Stork, African Spoonbill, Augur Buzzard, Gabar Goshawk, Water Dikkop, Great Tit, Starling, Hornbill and Crombec. The climate is warm (25 to 35 degrees) all year round, day and night. While a welcome breeze blows off the Lake in the evenings, the sensation of coldness is practically unknown here.
